Jane Eyre is one of my favorite classic stories. It sounds like a nice story and it reminds me of show I've watched about a girl who steps into the world of her favorite book (Pride and prejudice.) It's called "Lost in Austen" and it was a pretty good show!

There will be two more books about Emma.
Unbound 2: The second book in the Unbound trilogy, which continues the literary adventures of Emma Townsend as she travels into Nathaniel Hawthorne's - The scarlet letter.
Unbound 3: The conclusion to the Unbound trilogy, in which Emma Townsend travels to Paris and gets lost in Gaston Leroux's - the phantom of the opera.

Wow, just wow! I remember that I was completely blown away by this book. I had high hopes for it and it delivered.

The first chapters left me annoyed by our Sleeping Beauty. She's kissed by Ben and awakes after more than 80 years in 'stasis'. It's a special sort of sleep where you're body and mind freeze in time. She had a really bad attitude. She was too dumb to understand anything, so she wouldn't learn for school and stuff like that. She was immediately obsessed with Bren, but she doesn't even know him. As you can see, I was not very excited at the beginning. Still, I wanted to give the book a chance and I am so glad I did.

Rose emerges now into a world that has recovered from the 'dark times.' That was a dystopian-sounding era brought by illness. Everyone in her old live is dead. If her parents hadn't left her in stasis for so long, perhaps she would have died to. Not that she had a very pleasant life. I began to understand her when the whole story got another dimension. Her past began to unfold and we get to know her parents better. They were terrible! They sort of abused her mentally by putting her in stasis every time they wanted. Vacation? Work? Annoyed? Just put her into sleep until you feel like waking up.. It really messed up her life and the beautiful love she had with Xavier.

"I didn't want the sun to rise. I didn't want the world to continue turning. I wanted the whole planet put into stasis until I could catch up."

Rose is constantly haunted by everything she lost. That's why she has so many troubles with her feelings for Ben, the boy who is taking her under his wing. The story get's deeper when there are several attempts to kidnap - and murder - her. There's an assassin who is activated the moment she woke up.\

I felt heartbroken at the end of the story. I just felt like crying for everything this girl lost in her life.. She got a lot back (like the friendship with Onno. He's fantastic!) but still.. I could only think about everything she could have before, if her parents were just normal. And I love the writing. I really bonded with her in the end. I though she was really strong when she discovered the truth about several things. I would be devastated, but she can deal with it and I admired that about Rose.

Read this book. Really! I wish I could read this one again, for the first time, just to be dazzled.

Top 10 Tuesday (2) Theme song.

Oh my. I love music, but I never thought about picking a specific song for a certain book. I don't think I can think of 10 songs and books right now, but we'll see how far I get and I can edit it if I come up with something later :)
1. J.K Rowling - Harry Potter. I always get sentimentel when I think about Harry Potter. That's why I picked this song: Backstreet Boys - climbing the wall. I know that it's a very old song, but the lyrics are very good. "Close your eyes, make a wish, that this could last forever." That's what I always think after reading every book again. That it could go on and on and on.

2. Heather Dixon - Entwined. Yiruma - Time forgets. When they were dancing on the music, I sometimes imagened that they were listening to stuff like this. It's so beautiful and peacefull and I think that you can make a nice dance on this song :).

3. Alexandra Monir - Timeless. Adele - Hiding my heart. "So this is how my story went, I met someone by accident Who blew me away, who blew me away." And in the end, that's what Michele does; she's hiding her heart, because, who will believe her? 'I'm in love with someone from years ago and I sometimes visit him by touching my aunts diary'?

4. Anna Sheehan - A long, long sleep. Coldplay - Fix you. "And the tears come streaming down your face. When you lose something you can't replace. When you love someone, but it goes to waste. Could it be worse?" That just describes what this book is all about. I'm going to put my review on this book soon, because I LOVED this one. It's so beautiful and well written and it broke my heart.

5. Kiersten White - Paranormalcy. Coldplay - Every teardrop is a waterfall. There's not a lyric that fits this book, but there's something about the upbeat tempo that reminds me of Evie. This song makes me wanna dance and Evie has this energetic and positive vibe that really combines with this song. (And I just love Coldplay :p)

6. Markus Zusak - The book thief. Adele - Someone like you. "Never mind, I’ll find someone like you" "You’d know how the time flies, only yesterday was the time of our lives." If you've read the story, you know what I'm talking about. Heartbreaking part of the book and I think that some of the lyrics fits to the feeling of the book.

We now know two things. I like Adele and Coldplay (and many others). I am a sucker for sad songs, because they have so many emotions in them. I'm not very good at combining songs to books, but I did my best.

Review 9. Heather Dixon - Entwined.

"Unfortunately Mr. Penbrook was the sort of gentleman Mother had told her about. You could poison their horses, steal their pins, set their manors on fire, chop off their fingers and they would still think you the sweetest little thing."

 I LOVED this book about Azalea, the main character and the crown princess, followed by all her sisters: Bramble, Clover, Delphinium, Evening Primrose (Eve), Flora, Goldenrod, Hollyhock, Ivy, Jessamine, Kale and new-born Lily. They are all named after flowers and plants - which I thought was very funny - but it also shows how the king lives. He likes structure and therefore there are rules everybody must obey.

The books starts with Azalea getting redding for the ball. We immediately find out that dancing is very important for her (and her sisters). I love how that reflects the title, Entwined. What I like is that we get to meet the princesses - they all have their own personality - and we can see how the story unravels. We now get to know why the princesses want to dance each night and how they found the enchanted forest. When their mother passes away after childbirth, they go into mourning.
Their castle is enchanted. The man in charge of the forest, is called Keeper. He is mysterious and has something dark. He invites them to come dance every night and the princesses are thrilled by it, but the King starts to notice. He asks every gentleman to find out their secret. Instead of putting them to death, like the real story, he just sent them away if they don't succeed after three days. That way we get to meet several young men and I appreciated Lord Teddy and Mr. Bradford. Lord Teddy is just so silly and adorable. He made me laugh and I loved meeting him. Mr. Bradford sounds like a lovely, nice man. The story gets a dark twist when Azalea finds out who Mr. Keeper really is. He's there for a reason and he'll do anything to reach his goal. Azalea must act quick or she may loose everything she loves.
This book has one big strength; the lovely, adorable characters. The way Heather portrayed every one of them as an own identity is marvelous. Clover is the shy one, Bramble has a big mouth, Azalea is responsible, Eve is the bookworm, the King looks a bit mean and harsh, but he has a sweet inside and so on. The love in this book develops and grows. Every element in it is right and I'm a sucker for 'happily ever afters'.
I think this is a clever, nice retelling of the real story. I think I even like this one more than the original one. It's also a good thing that this story gets a retelling; most of the time we only get retellings of popular ones. It's one of my favorite now and I'm looking forward reading more of Heather.

I really liked this book. There's not so much action, but it still captured my attention. We get to meet Lia and Alice, who lived with their father, aunt and two brothers. Now their father is dead and strange things are happening. Lia has suddenly marks on her wrist and they become more visible every day. Her twin sister Alice is acting strange - although their relationship has never been very strong - and they rarely talk to each other.

When Alice slips away during school time, Lia decides to follow her with Luisa. Alice is leaving to see a medium called Sonia and she wants the girl to contact her father. It goes not according to plan and Sonia sent them away.

Alice is frustrated and Lia becomes even more confused. What is going on? And when Lia and Sonia meet in - what Lia thought it was - a dream, everything becomes even more confusing. Until she receives a book. There's a story in it that tells about the Prophecy of the sisters. A twin, one the Gate, one the Guardian. Four keys to unlock the Gate or close the Gate forever. They can release Satan and his souls to make chaos in the world or they can make them disappear forever. Sonia and Luisa also have marks around their wrists, so what's their role in this story?
“I avoid looking at the clock, fearing the slow passing of time that will only seem slower if I watch its progress.”
Lia is a like-able girl. Alice is sucked into her own world and there's only one thing she wants; and she will do anything to get it. The only thing that I don't liked was the fact that Lia accepts everything so easily. I think that I would need a lot of time to adjust to the fact that I can destroy or save the world. Not to mention the fact that her soul can wonder in the Otherworlds. I liked Sonia and Luisa. They are both very nice and brave.

I will definitely read the next book very soon, because I want to know what will happen next! There's one thing I noticed while looking on Goodreads: you love this book or you hate this book, there's no other way. People gave this book 4/5 stars or just 1 star, so you just have to find out on which side you're on :)

Top 10 Tuesday (1) Natural disaster.

Top 10 Books I’d Save In A Natural (Or Otherwise) Disaster!

That's a really difficult question, since I love every book I own (around 501 books). But if I must choose:

1. Markus Zusak - The book thief. No need to explain, just look up Favorite Friday 1 and you see why.
2. Markus Heitz - The dark times & the new times. I know this is not one book, but a series that has 9 books. I just can't pick one book and leave the others, so I'll take them with my as one.
3. Juliet Marillier - The seven waters. Same as Heitz. I adore this series.
4. Juliet Marillier - Heart's blood. Fantastic book.
5. J.K Rowling - Harry Potter. How could I leave those behind? This was my first fantasy ever and it got me hooked, so it has a special value to me. And hellooo, it's Harry Potter! (I've got them in Dutch and English; I want them both with me!)
6. Carrie Ryan - The forest of hands & teeth. My first zombie book ever and it showed me that I quite like this genre.
7. Christoph Marzi - Lycidas & Lilith. Two separate books, but I adore them.
8. Philippa Gregory - The three books about The Tudors. She has a gift for writing. I'm obsessed with history after reading these books.
9. Shakespeare - The oxford bundle with all his works in it. He's a genius, especially his poems.
10. Markus Heitz - the three books about Sia (Judas serie). I'm going to read the third one soon, but I loved the first two.

Hmm, as you can see, my bag must be big enough to take a lot of books with me. I just can't leave any of those in the list and I had to think very hard about it. I think I'll go mad if something like this would happen!

And I would take my e-reader with me, of course! But that's a tiny thing, so that won't be a problem.

Tess Gerritsen is one of my favorite writers, but this book was not as good as her other books. Normally I'm hooked, but that feeling wasn't as strong now.

Storyline:
Maura Isles is in trouble. Everybody blames her for putting a respected police officer behind bars, but she can only see the story through her victims eyes. She likes to live according to rules. Even Jane treats her friend different and that gives a strange feeling in this book. But, let's go to the real story. There's a red-haired dead woman on a rove (above the restaurant mentioned on the back.) Her hand is severed from her body and her head is almost chopped off. According to the kind of wounds, it's done by an extremely sharp sword.

That's the connection between this murder and a murder-suicide from nineteen ears ago. The woman connected to that massacre is alive and she is a master in martial arts; and she has a sword. Is she the one?

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. There's a secret, buried so deep that the police has trouble finding it. There are mysterious notes, which appears every year on the day the murder-suicide happened. There are hairs found on the body which can't be identified. An old police agent who retired years ago is searching for missing girls. Girls who are linked to the people who died nineteen years ago. What the hell is going on?

Characters:
Of course, there's Jane and Maura, but they have a newcomer. A boy who wants to be noticed, so he can get a position at Jane's department. He really wants to prove something and that has two sides. He's eager to learn and he commits himself full to the murder. But he makes mistakes sometimes; like, he makes the family members angry with his questions.

Jane is a real bitch in this book. Most of the time, she can be that way, but I like that about her. Now, it annoyed me a bit, because she's so harsh at Maura. It's nice that the boy from the 8th book returns. He has a tiny role, but I liked him.

Overall:
There's so much going on and I always like how Tess keeps it easy to follow. Everything comes together at the end and I'm always wrong.. She surprises me and that's one of her good points. The writing is easy and quick, but I just missed something. Still, a really good read!

If you like a thriller, you should definitely read this one (or start in the first book. It's a stand alone, but sometimes, things from earlier books return in it.)

Storyline: 
Asher is the bad-guy type. He likes to flirt with girls and he has a certain way of talking. Devin is shy and likes to stay in the background. Skye and he can really talk, but she and Asher have some kind of spark they can't deny. Cassie - Skye's best girlfriend - is teasing her, but the story get's more complicated when Skye finds out that they are there for a reason. They are watching her; protecting her from herself. They both have the same goal, but Devin warns her for Asher, but Asher tells her to stay away from Devin. Skye is torn apart and she is struggling with the discovery about her dead parents. Whose side is she on. Asher or Devin?

Characters:
I liked them all, but I hated Devin during the development of the story. He got very pushy and demanding, so I really wanted Skye to end up with Asher. Sky herself is a nice and sweet girl, but she can be annoying. She says one thing, but her actions are doing the opposite thing. Girl, make a decision! And what the heck, how can you fall in love with someone you barely know? Love is not based on how good looking he is.. You must have something in common, you must like his personality.. I also disliked the fact that every page is about her struggle. "I don't like him.. I do like him.. I want him to leave.. I want him to stay." Even her schoolwork is suffering from it, like, get a grip on yourself! But perhaps I think to much about stuff like that. I must be more romantic, so I tried to read beyond those lines and I found a very small story.

Overall:
Like I said, besides the whole love triangle, the story lacks a real good storyline. I expected more action. The whole story should have been more about her past and her new gifts. Now it was more: the story needed something more to make it less boring, so we just put some gifts in it and at the end we come up with a little bit of action. Her gifts should have been the subject, not just a side issue. Therefore, I give this book 2.5 to 3 stars, because I still want to read the next book.. I want to know how the story continues, because the writing isn't bad. I just expected more of the storyline.

Review 5. April Lindner - Jane.

Rating:

First of all, I love Jane Eyre. I think that it's such a lovely story and it has that sweet and pure love it it. A modern version of that story, how cool is that?

Storyline:
The story goes about Jane. Her parents die in a car crash and she has no place to live, so she wants to be a nanny. She drops out of school until she has enough money to start again. Jane ends up going to Thornfield Park, where Nico - a rock star - and his daughter Maddy lives. She is qualified for it, because she has no idea who Nico really is. She's not into television and gossip magazines. And from that one, the story practically follows the line of the original Eyre. I know it's a bit short, but there's not much to say about it. If you know the original version, you know how this story will go.

Characters:
Mr. Rochester is one of my favorite personages in the book, but Nico Rathburn is less like-able. In this modern time, there's really no reason to stay in certain situations (if you know what I mean). Jane always seemed very puzzled in this book and April made her plain and boring. If you're not very into celebrities and following television shows, but into reading, that doesn't mean you have to be boring. That you don't have any kind of personality! I wished she had more spirit, like the Jane in the original book.
Than there's Maddy, who practically plays no role in the book, other than bringing Jane and Nico together. And, when you look beyond the spoiled-brat part, she is quite nice.

Overall:
I know that I sounds a bit harsh on the characters in the book, but I think that it's good that these original books are translated into modern versions of the story. The concept is still fantastic, but this book could use some adjustments.
